This pretty flower has elegant shape with long, distinctive spurs, it can be a wild flower or a garden flower. Wildflower columbines grow in both warm and cold climates and can bloom for months. Garden variety comes in a rainbow of colors, with bright green foliage, horticulturalists have developed many cultivars and hybrids.
Columbines are members of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). The common name is derived from the Latin word columba which means 'dove'. This refers to the curved spurs which look like little birds. Flower heads also resemble the head of an eagle. The scientific name in Latin is Aquilegia Canadensis.
The Pink Columbine is loved for its combination of salmon and white colors and its abilities to be used as a perfume, in herbal medicine and sometimes even love potions.
